About Dance 4 Life

Dance4Life is a pioneering two-year long programme which gives a local focus to the national Change4Life scheme, which aims to increase physical activity levels and encourage healthy eating. Funded through the Lincolnshire Health and Wellbeing Fund, Dance4Life is about finding ways to break down barriers which stop adults dancing and encouraging them to embrace dance and the joy of movement as part of an active, healthy lifestyle enabling people to have fun, challenge themselves and socialise in their own community!

Much too often, an abundance of classes for young people overshadow a distinct lack of quality classes for adults. The Dance4Life programme will start to address this and deliver classes in places with people who really need and want it regardless of age, ability or location!

The programme comprises five elements:

Focus Areas

Dance4life focuses on areas of Lincolnshire where there aren't enough chances for adults to dance, whether to engage with their communities or to get fit and improve their wellbeing. Areas which have been isolated, such as small towns and villages, are now being targeted by the Dance4Life programme to build and continue to support classes on the doorstep!

So far, people living in the areas of Holbeach and Holbeach St Marks have had access to a range of classes. The uptake has been very encouraging with classes retaining participants as well as attracting new ones. Currently, the Dance4Life team is working hard to initiate classes in the towns of Wragby and Bardney. We are currently looking for dance practitioners who are prepared to work in these communities, to teach taster classes of their style of dance. If this is you, please click here.

Dance4Life classes

Dance4Life classes are offered by highly experienced and professional dance practitioners in various styles, such as Zumba, Egyptian, Burlesque, Street and early dance! Something for everyone. Look out for the logo so you know where to go!.

The Buddy Scheme

Dance4Life buddies share their joy of dance with those who need a little more encouragement to attend class! Our team of buddies come from all walks of life and cover an age-range from twenty to sixty-five. They all share a love of dance and the generosity to lend a helping hand and have the time to attend dance classes in their community! Buddies enjoy social and networking events. Free dance classes are also thrown in and the chance to take an OCN accredited qualification for Volunteers.

Young Peoples Projects

The Dance4Life team is currently looking at ways to increase chances for NEETS (not in employment, education or training) to dance. We have connected with The Prince’s Trust team and Lincolnshire's YEP (young expectant parent) project, working with qualified maternity care workers and midwives as part of our relationship with the Lincolnshire NHS Trust. In the new year the team will launch a bespoke dance project where young people who may not have had the best start in life will get the chance to improve their fitness, health and wellbeing, and have a great time socialising in a specialised course which helps them on the path to employment, education and training.

Pathways for Development

Pathways for Development gives opportunities for participants involved with Dance4Life to boost their professional development and gain qualifications for the work they do.
